A Legacy Remembered...

Cheryl Williams, a native Houstonian, was born in the Kashmere Garden Area. It was recognized that she exhibited a passion for dance since the day she was able to walk. Her first exposure was in kindergarten, where she would often get bored in class. She would start dancing and singing until the teacher started putting her in the corner. As Cheryl recalled during that time; no one knew what to do with her because she was a mess!
It was at her Homecoming Dance in 8th grade where she first discovered a proper outlet for her creativity. She was exposed to Line Dancing and also SwingOut or 2-Step (as it's sometimes called). She was so amazed and quickly inspired to learn. Cheryl would then go on and take her newfound knowledge of these dances and began teaching around the neighborhood. "It's been on ever since," she said, and several great opportunities had followed that were very rewarding. Community engagements, Teaching classes at Club Desiree, The Houston Area Urban League, Lake Jackson - Texas, HISD as a Line Dance teacher, and Houston area Colleges during special events.
Furthermore, as an award-winning instructor and choreographer, her class included students from all over the world, especially during the summer months. She has taught Line dancers from Australia, China, Germany, Russia, and the Philippines. Her students travel to Texas from all over the world to join in on the Line dancing fun at the Fonde Community Center where she was the Head Line Dance - Instructor. Cheryl also taught at parties, celebrations, weddings, family reunions, and corporate events, to name a few.
She was accustomed to traveling often to other cities and states for Line Dance Summits and Workshops, which was just two of the ways she kept up with the current Line Dances. Cheryl made many new friends at these events where they were known for exchanging each other's Line Dances and ideas, creating a strong network all over the country. This is how dances such as, "Cupid Shuffle, The Wobble, The Twist and the well-known Zydeco line dance L'Argent" were spread throughout this nation.
As a renowned Line Dance Instructor, the leader and organizer of Houston's own, ROYAL COURT. Cheryl treasures all of her awards and accolades, including her nomination for Line Dance of the year in 2011 for the Zydeco Hit, L'Argent.

Line dance classes offer opportunities for social interaction, stress relief, and a sense of community, and Cheryl's weekly 'Line Dance Classes' held in multiple locations were well attended.

She'll be missed but never forgotten.
